Please ensure that you return the whole contents of the meter kit, including the charger / power supply, data cable, etc. If you are returning a Fatmeter then please also include the check pad.
Before sending the equipment, please let us know by email, telephone or fax that you are making the shipment, and whether it is for repair or routine service. If a repair is needed then it will be useful to let us know the symptoms of the problem, though we will inspect the meter thoroughly to check for any problems.
Send the equipment to:
Service Department, Distell Old Levenseat, Fauldhouse, West Lothian EH47 9AD UK
Once we have received and inspected the equipment we will contact you to let you know what work, if any, is required, and we will give you a firm quotation for the work.
Sending equipment from inside the E.U.
Shipments from European Union countries are not subject to customs duty or taxes so you can simply ship the package using your preferred courier.
Sending equipment from outside the E.U.
If you are shipping equipment from outside the European Union, e.g. USA, Japan, Canada, etc. then you need to take extra steps to avoid problems with customs and taxes.
There are two separate areas to be concerned with:
- When the package is shipped into the UK for repair or service, we will be charged duty and taxes unless the package and documents are all correctly marked.
- When the package is returned to you then you will probably be charged duty and taxes unless the proper procedure has been followed.
Please note: if Distell are charged duty and / or taxes on an incorrectly marked or labelled package then we will attempt to rectify the situation at this end. If this turns out to be impossible, however, then we will pass on those charges to you as the shipper. We would prefer not to do this, so it is in your best interests to make sure that you follow the procedures here.
Preferred courier
If you have a choice of couriers then we recommend using UPS or DHL for shipping because we have experienced issues with other couriers failing to observe the correct import procedures.
Declared shipment value
Your shipping paperwork will require a value to be applied to the shipment. We suggest you use a low nominal value (e.g. around £100 in your local currency) for this rather than the original purchase price of the equipment. Since taxes and duties are not supposed to be due on the equipment itself then the value given should not matter, but if there is a mistake in your shipping documents and taxes and / or duties are charged then they will be charged on the declared value. Using a small value here is, therefore, an extra layer of protection in case there are problems with the paperwork.
Local shipping paperwork
The shipping and customs paperwork that is required varies from country to country. Normally the courier that you use to send the package will take care of the paperwork for you, possibly for an additional fee. If you are not sure about this aspect of the process then we recommend that you contact your preferred courier or your local customs department for advice on the correct procedures for sending equipment for repair or service.
If you produce your own shipping paperwork then please include copies inside the package. We can then use details from that paperwork on our return paperwork so that your local shipping agent / customs officers can match up the outward shipment with the return shipment, and they will then know that the goods are not newly purchased and are therefore not liable for duty and / or taxes in the normal way. This will help to ensure that you are not charged excess tax or duty when the equipment is shipped back to you.
Note that you may be liable for tax and / or duty on the cost of the repairs, but this will always be less than the cost of the equipment.
Include IPR details in the shipping paperwork
The UK has a scheme called 'Inward Processing Relief', or IPR, that helps to smooth the process of bringing shipments back for repair and service. The following IPR information must be shown on both the external packaging and the attached shipping invoice and paperwork:
|
IPR SUSPENSION GOODS, Returned for service & repair |
|
IPR authorisation number: |
IP/0907/518/12 |
|
MRC office: |
Caledonian House, Greenmarket, Dundee DD1 4QD |
|
Customs economic code: |
30 (4) |
|
Customs entry code: |
31 00 000 |
|
Customs exit code: |
31 00 000 |
|
Commodity code: |
9031 8038 90 |
With this information in place then the UK shipping agent will be able to process the shipment without applying taxes or duties.
If any part of this process is not clear then please get in touch for clarification.
